A theme that is
still applicable to today's society from Romeo and Juliet would be
the theme of
Love is the worth the
sacrifice. In Romeo and Juliet, Juliet took the chance of lying to
her family, acting dead, being buried alive all so she could be with
Romeo because she truly loved him. Also Romeo who thought Juliet was
dead took his life just to be with her. They both took strong
sacrafices to be with one another. The did everything in their power
so that they could stay together no matter what. They didn't worry
about the people around them and what they were doing. As long as
they could be together that's all they wanted. Of course in today's
society it is not that big of as a crifice that people will make but
some people who really do love their partner, will drop family,
friends, town, jobs, etc. Just to stay with them. They love someone
so much they will drop everything just to be with them. Some people
have such a strong bond that love really is worth it to them and
over the years that theme has never been dropped. Back in the 1500's
people did everything they could to be with the one they love and
they still continue to do it now so I am sure it will continue for
years to come as long as the love that people have is a strong enough
connection.

Symbol
of Cupid's and his Bow and Arrow
Cupid himself and his arrow are a symbol in Romeo and Juliet because it represents unexpected and chosen love. Cupid is the man who knows who is going love each other forever he is the match maker of all match makers. He makes people unexpectedly fall in love, he picks who loves who and leaves no controls for the people themselves. He has the knowledge of knowing who will love who and even if they aren't supposed to be together or never would find love on their own that is when the bow and arrow come into play and Cupid works his magic making them realize they are supposed to love that one person. “We'll have no Cupid hoodwink'd with a scarf” (Shakespeare, I, iv, 4) That line being said by Benvoilo is saying how we will not have someone dress up as cupid to scar the ladies. We want the ladies to fall for us not think they are being forced by cupid. In Romeo and Juliet they all believe that you can be under Cupid's spell. Cupid represent love for everyone, if you are struck by his bow you will automatically be in love even if you thought you never could love that person or even if you both were never meant to be. Cupid and his arrow help develop plot because Romeo a Montague and Juliet a Capulet were never supposed to be together. Their families hate each other and that should of been passed down to them but instead they end up seeing each other and falling madly in love under the powers of Cupid and all he can do with his bow. It also helps show that even though for years the families have not liked each other that can all change with a little bit of magic and a whole lot of love.

Symbol of the Serpent
The
serpent is a symbol in Romeo and Juliet because the serpent
represents the death and bad things. The serpent is also linked with
foreshadowing. With foreshadowing being related to a future event and
the serpent also meaning death or harm. It causes the possibility of
future harm possible being in the future. “O serpent heart hid with
a flow'ring face!” (Shakespeare, III, ii, 73). When Juliet says
serpent heard she is referring to a bad heart, a heart that can not
see the better, can not love. But it being a serpent heart it is full
of hate. The serpent heart hid by a flowering face it showing how
easy looks can be deceiving. A person can have the most beautifulest
face that anyone can fall for, and that beautiful face will hide a
heart of hate. This symbol helps develop plot by having Juliet
realize not everyone's face is the most important thing and that
looks can be deceiving. She is now realizing not everyone will be
there to protect her and that from now on she will be on her own and
things will become risky.

Symbol of the Star and Star crossed lovers.
The symbol of the star.
The star is a symbol because it represents the love of Romeo and Juliet. Romeo and Juliet were said to be star crossed lovers. They were two people who were never supposed to end up together but got stuck in the path of the stars and became star crossed lovers. The quote “I fear too early, for my mind missives some consequences yet hanging in the stars shall bitterly begin his fearful date” (Shakespeare I, iv, 106-108) said by Romeo is saying how he was invited decided to attend the masquerade ball and is going to face his fears. Romeo is talking about how he is afraid of the consequence that may happen at the ball, but easily convinced by Mercuito and Benvolio who are excited to flirt and dance with the ladies Romeo ends up going. Romeo does not want to be with the other ladies he is afraid of what possibly could happen at the masquerade plus he would rather be at home because he is so love sick. But he takes the chance in join in with the boys anyway and with the chance he took he found his star- Juliet and immediately fell in love with her looks but because he is not supposed to be with her it is why they're known as star crossed lovers.
The star is used to develop the character of Romeo. Romeo being against flirting and dancing with all the girls at the party because he is supposed to be marrying someone else but by Romeo finding a girl (Juliet) that he instantly falls “in love” with it develops the character of him being easily influenced by looks. He doesn't take the time to get to know the person before if he decides if he truly loves them or if he truly just loves their looks.
Also the star helps develops the plot in the play because Romeo and Juliet are star crossed lovers. Two people that were never supposed to be together but somehow end up together. When he talks about the how fearful he is of this night and he just happens to see Juliet the story really starts here. The plot has been put into place because he has found this most beautiful women that he is involve with and now takes place all the fights and issues with the parents and arranged marriages with the other people.
